Permaculture Resources

The word and concept of permaculture formed in modern human consciousness in 1978 when Bill Mollison and David Holmgren coined the term. Many of the ethics and principles of permaculture can be traced back not only hundreds but possibly thousands of years. Concepts like traditional ecological knowledge or “TEK” practiced by indigenous people around the world for generations inform the more modern, post-colonial permaculture values, ethics, and principles we have today.

While permaculture often conjures images of homesteads and renewable energy technologies like wind and solar power, permaculture is about a lot more than food and energy. It is not simply about specific, more energy and resource efficient methodologies and technologies. It also is about questioning the status quo and reframing what is possible in physical and non-physical design. This includes our relationships with ourselves (“Zone 0 [zero]”), one another, and all that we would call natural, artificial, and synthetic from ponds, prairies, and forests to high tech machines and artificial intelligence (AI).

This page is the beginning of a collection of resources that we think are helpful to permaculture beginners. This includes websites, videos, books, online communities, and much more. Much of this content is not our original work, but some of it is. At some point we plan to collect so many resources that they will be dispersed and categorized across this site. Moreover, in the spirit of open source and collaboration we are open to questions about and suggestions for resources that are or can be included on this site. Additionally, if you would like to work directly with us on a permaculture design for yourself of someone you know, please reach out to us.

Welcome! We look forward to helping guide you on your permaculture journey!
